Arkady Novikov and Ginza Project present a new Georgian restaurant Chaykovskiy v Tiflise, opened in rotunda of Chaykovskiy café, situated in the Moscow philharmonic society on the Triumfal'naya ploshchad'. How are the Georgian cuisine and the great Russian composer, after whom the café was named, connected? Tchaikovsky visited Georgia many times and had warm feelings for this country, Tiflis in particular (the city was renamed Tbilisi in 1936). “Remembering my three-month journey, Tiflis brings the warmest memories. Not so often in my life did I have the moments of that much happiness”, confessed the composer in one of his letters. It was in Georgia when the composer started to think about the ballet “Sleeping Beauty”, Operas;”Iolanta”, “The Queen of Spades”, and where the first night of the opera “The Enchantress” took place. And who knows, maybe without this place the world wouldn’t have had some the composer’s masterpieces. And there is no doubt, that there wouldn’t have been the Arab dance in the ballet “The Nutcracker”, where Tchaikovsky used the traditional melody from the Georgian lullaby “Iavnana”. The interior of the hall, created by the famous soviet architect Chechulin D.N. in the 1940s, was sensitively restored in the oriental style common for Tiflis in Tchaikovsky times. The rooms are decorated with unique pictures which tell the story of Tchaikovsky’s visit to Georgia. In the centre of the room by the open fire charcoal grill, visitors can see a big panel picture of Tchaikovsky and his friends in the garden of a famous Tiflis restaurant. All this helps to portray the famous Georgian hospitality. All those who appreciate food not only for its taste, but also for the style, are welcome here. Chaykovskiy v Tiflise is traditional Georgian cuisine, created by Chef Edisher Khevsuriani and the owner of the famous restaurants in Georgia “Egrisi” and “Megrul-Lazuri” Nana Kuchava, who inherited family cooking traditions from her great grandmother, who lived in the era of Tchaikovsky. The menu boasts wide selection of sacivi, khachapuri, khinkali.
